CJ File Browser 3.1 Released!

My Attempt At The Ultimate Image/File Manager.

Finally, after two weeks of non-stop work, I have finally released version 3.1 of CJ File Browser, my image/file manager that can be used as a tinyMCE plug-in or be used in stand-alone mode. To anyone that downloaded the previous couple of versions, let me apologize to you.

Since the very first release of my ColdFusion File Manager, I have always tried to make it simple and easy for people to figure out how to use it. When I converted the code to make it a tinyMCE plug-in, it added a layer of complexity that I never really had time to deal with. The result of that led me down the path of releasing a bunch of sub-par projects to the public.

A few weeks ago, I decided I was going to re-write some of the code and try to clean things up a little bit. I quickly released version 3.0, found some little bugs and released version 3.0.1. Well, I got to be honest with you. That one was pure crap. And for that, I apologize.

The problem I was running into was that I have another version which I use for my clients. This one had a slick interface, more features and the code was written specifically for ColdFusion 8 servers. (The servers that most of my clients are on) When creating the public releases, I would always take my version and strip all the fluff from it. I wanted it to be more of a tutorial on how to make a File Browser, instead of being a production release that you could use out-of-the-box. This is where I started running into problems. The more I stripped things down, the more mistakes were popping up and the more complicated my "tutorial" became.

Most of the comments I received over the years were people having problems installing this into a production environment (thankfully, this was usually in a back-end management area). No one seemed to pay heed to my rants about this being a tutorial. So the decision was made. I was going to release my version and consider it a full production environment release.

This meant I had to do some work. In order for me to do this, I was going to have to make it so it didn't have to rely on ColdFusion 8 exclusively, I had to clean the heck out of the code and I was going to have to comment things out the wahzoo.

So without further ado, I would like to introduce to everyone CJ File Browser 3.1. Take a look over in the project section, download it and play around with the settings. I've literally spent a solid week working on this version, most of it was writing new documentation and the last few days I was in what I like to call debugging hell.

If anyone has any problems with this thing, let me know. I want to make this one the best one out there. If you spot something, anything, please post a comment on it!
